In 1991 senior partners of Coopers and Lybrand – now PwC recognised the need to transfer useful business skills to owner managers of small medium and micro enterprises (SMME), and based on the British seminar programme in the United Kingdom, PwC approached the National Industrial Chamber (NIC), the manufacturing sector of NAFCOC, bringing with it the intimate knowledge of the SMME sector to be the founding partner of BSSA, the Business Skills for South Africa Foundation (BSSA) was born. From the outset, the BSSA’s focus has been on SMMEs that are already in business with a belief that these existing operations would improve, grow, and create viable job opportunities.
Over the years, the need to develop and impart business skills to the start-ups could not be ignored, BSSA expanded its operations to include support to those wishing to start businesses of their own.
BSSA Head Offices are in Pretoria and operates nationally in all the Provinces of South Africa.
Since its inception, BSSA has trained more than 65 000 SMME owner managers, more than 2000 business advisers/mentors assisting SMMEs with advise on the management of their businesses. BSSA has evolved over the years and adapted responsively to the needs of a variety of clients undergoing capacity building, development and training programmes.
