Emerging farmers learn business skills
BSSA is increasingly being approached by groups of emerging farmers to offer basic business skills training. One of the farmer groups assisted recently is the Masakona Community Primary Cooperative (MCAPC), which produces vegetables on a communal farm near Masakona village to the east of Makhado in Limpopo.
Centre for Supplier Development: BP
The Centre for Supplier Development (CFSD) contracted BSSA to train a group of suppliers to BP. The training took place at the Riversands Incubation Hub in Johannesburg and included four interventions during October and November 2015.
The training consisted of pricing and costing, and financial management, as well as an advanced module on financial analysis.
Humana Youth in Action
BSSA recently trained 120 youth club leaders and 125 club members forming part of the Youth in Action programme of Humana People to People in South Africa.
ACWA Power in Groblershoop
In 2015, BSSA was contracted by ACWA Power to offer a four-day business skills training programme to a group of business owners from villages surrounding the ACWA Power plant in Groblershoop.
Centre for Supplier Development
From July 2014 to July 2015, BSSA was contracted by the Centre for Supplier Development (CFSD) to offer business skills training to potential and existing suppliers at mines at Phalaborwa, Burgersfort, Richards Bay, Roodepoort and Lichtenburg.
Post-training mentoring was conducted by the CFSD, which also assisted with the formation of joint ventures between SMMEs which were trained, and existing suppliers.
In March 2015, business support service provider Enterprise Room requested BSSA to train a group of 20 of its business advisers and staff members.
The group was trained in the Build a Better Business Programme, as well as parts of BSSA's Core programme.
