Alliances for Growth
Alliances contribute in important ways to increase the impact of SMME development initiatives, and BSSA has developed various strategic and operational partnerships. These alliances are generally with support agencies, technical development organisations, funding agencies and institutions offering business opportunities to businesses not yet fully able to achieve the required outcomes without support.
BSSA’s alliance partnerships vary from official partnership arrangements with other service delivery institutions to less structured relationships with donor agencies or major stakeholders. In some of the latter cases the partner contributes a range of inputs, from jointly planning the training support programme to actually funding BSSA’s training support.
Institute of Business Advisers (IBA)
BSSA staff members played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Institute of Business Advisers (IBA) – first as a branch of the British Institute of Business Advisers, and since April 2001, as an independent institute.
In the past, BSSA has supported the IBA on an ongoing basis (in terms of office space and administrative support), and has also won contracts to offer further training to IBA members (funded in earlier years by Ntsika, South African Breweries and the Services SETA). More recently this training has formed part of the IBA's Continuing Professional Development (CPD) initiatives.

Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ)
In 2000, the then Carl Duisberg Gesellschaft (CDG) (now GIZ) and BSSA launched a joint project in which PROCESS, CDG’s training programme for business advisers, was rolled out in South Africa and the SADC states. It has been successfully implemented for the past 10 years.
BSSA, in partnership with GIZ and Steinbeis, also developed a training programme focusing on competitiveness in manufacturing management, called ProNet. International training materials have been adapted to suit South African conditions. The programme has been running ever since.

Middelburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry
The Middelburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry and BSSA have a strong and mutually beneficial relationship. During the 2009/2010 financial year, BSSA was contracted by the Chamber to train SMME managers. The training was funded by BHP Billiton, and was the first phase of a longer term programme. In 2011 and 2012, BSSA was again requested to train SMME members of the Chamber. Similar training will take place in 2013, this time funded by Absa.

Limpopo Business Support Agency (LIBSA)
The Limpopo Business Support Agency (LIBSA) was formed as part of the Limpopo Provincial Growth and Development Strategy. Central to LIBSA's role is the promotion of enterprises in the mining, tourism, agriculture, manufacturing, construction, and information communication technology sectors. The agency also aims to stimulate a spirit of entrepreneurship especially among women, the disabled and the youth.
LIBSA offers both business and technical training to entrepreneurs at the agency's four training centres in Giyani, Lwamondo, Letaba and Seshego.
Many of the LIBSA trainers have been trained by BSSA and are accredited to offer BSSA training programmes, which they do on a regular basis.
